|Establishing a routine
Your baby has his own biological clock and will therefore sleep and awaken at random. In order to establish some routine into your bay's sleeping pattern, always make sure that the hour before bedtime is quiet and relaxing. Limit visitors during early evening and feed and change your baby in a warm room before settling him down.
New-born babies can sleep for up to twenty hours a day, so it is vital that you choose a crib or Moses basket that will keep him comfortable and secure. This is perfect for the first few months and can be placed at the side of your own bed. Alternatively, all Mamas & Papas Combination Prams have a carrycot which is suitable for sleeping your baby in overnight providing you use the recommended Mamas & Papas mattress.
Once your child is older and has settled into sleeping routine, you will need to place them in a cot or cot/bed. For convenience, many Mamas & Papas models have a three position base to cater for growth, teething rails to protect both your baby and the cot and a drop side so you can lift your child in and out quickly and easily.
Whichever bedding you choose, always ensure that your baby is neither too hot or too cold. A room thermometer will help to maintain the correct temperature, but also feel your baby on his forehead to check that he is not clammy or hot.
As part of the essential layette list, baby sheets and blankets are a necessary purchase for your baby. Choose bedding made from the softest natural fabrics that you can afford so that your baby is comfortable and warm. It is recommended that you purchase sufficient fitted sheets, flat sheets and blankets to fit your Moses basket, pram, cot or cot/bed and spares for when the others are being washed.
